JANELLE HAMLYN Dip.T. Art/English. Grad Dip.ATSI ED. Grad .Cert. ESL I am a visual arts teacher at Trinity Bay SHS, Cairns. Currently I am teaching visual arts from year 8 to 12 and multimedia to year 9s. The school caters for over 1200 students from vastly different backgrounds ; 20% are Aboriginal and Islander. I have enjoyed teaching at this school for 14 years. Previous to that, I have worked in a number of remote schools when computers filled large rooms in faraway sci-fi futuristic places! I have always had a positive approach to new and innovative teaching and learning environments and recognized a long time ago that technology had great potential for enhancing teaching and learning. I started using computers in the late 80’s as a word processing tool and for emails. I started with photoshop 3 ! in the art class room in the mid 90’s ! I have enjoyed using ICTs in my teaching ever since and have happily embraced new technologies over the last 10 years. Even after working on this site! - which has given me the opportunity to reflect on teaching career, I’m looking forward to continued engagement with ICT’s . It is necessary for myself, and the students to accept the challenges of the constantly changing world and develop the skills of a global life long learner.
